This is a great coming-of-age story, reminiscent of "Wild Diamond" but, in my opinion, even better executed. We follow the life of Bailey, a 12-year-old girl living in a deprived area of the United Kingdom. From the very beginning it is clear that Bailey sees the world differently from those around her. Nature, animals, and especially birds, symbolize freedom and ease, a feeling that comes vividly. Bailey meets Bird, a character who embodies the person she wants to become. At first, she mocks Bird, but eventually her mockery turns to admiration. Bailey faces many challenges, and Bird subtly guides her towards a solution. Some questions remain unanswered, but for me, the specific answers are irrelevant. The journey and growth that Bailey experiences are what really matters.
